Did you know that Washington County is designated as a HUBZone?
A HUBZone is a Historically Underutilized Business Zone. This is a federally designated and recognized area that needs economic stimulation. There are many factors that determine if an area qualifies as a HUBZone like location, income levels, unemployment, etc. These areas can included but don’t automatically qualify a HUBZone:
-
Qualified census tracts
-
Qualified non-metropolitan counties
-
Lands within the external boundaries of an Indian reservation
-
Redesignated areas
-
Qualified base closure areas
-
Qualified disaster areas
-
Governor-designated covered areas
Federal procurement is a 600 Billion dollar industry and the federal government aimes to award at least 3% of it’s government contracts to HUBZone certified businesses.
